Deuteronomy 6:5-9

"You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand and they shall be as frontals on your forehead. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

Day 4 & 5 Advent

Day 4 of Advent (Friday night)
We read Genesis 6:5-8. In this passage we saw that every man was wicked and that everything they thought about was evil. God was "sorry he had made human beings on the earth, and his heart was filled with pain." But there was one man that pleased the Lord, and his name was Noah. God goes on to destroy the earth, but saves Noah and his family. Noah trusted the Lord and obeyed God's instructions. We were challenged to do one thing just to please God. The children chose a variety of things like doing their chores without being asked, pray, and help mommy... Tabitha put the ornament on the tree tonight. It is a picture of an ark. Sorry about the lack of pictures for day 4 and the late post. I was not feeling well and was in bed by 9:00 that night.

 Day 5 of Advent
We chose to have our advent time during the day today. We had a busy day planned and Martie had to go to a wake tonight. We read Genesis 12:1-7. God instructs Abram to go from his country. Abram, his wife Sarai, and nephew Lot obeyed and set out from Harran. They set out for the land of Canaan. God promised to bless Abram and make him a great nation. Through Abram's promised family, God sent the biggest blessing of all the earth, Jesus, the baby that would one day crush Satan and free us from the disease of sin.

Tomorrow we are in our community Christmas parade. We talked with the children and told them that we were going out and trusting God tomorrow by serving people and giving out the gospel of John to children. That was the advent challenge for today, but we traded with tomorrow (Sunday). Tomorrows advent activity is to try and have a smile on our face all day and make at least 3 people laugh. We are joy-filled people, because we've been given the Son! It was neat to see the children talking about making people laugh and it's amazing how contagious a simple smile really is.
It was Carissa's turn to put the ornament on today. It was a picture of a tent and a camel to represent Abram and his family leaving their country.

Carissa just placed the ornament on the limb.
But she was quite happy with herself after she did it. I love her little smile, it lights up her whole face.
Trying again to put the ribbon around the limb.
Success! (with Mommy's help) ;-)
